| What is the Correct Membership Category for You? |
- Practising Member
This is open to applicants who have at least two years experience a consultant ecologist and a degree in the environmental sciences (or the equivalent) from a recognised, preferably Australian, tertiary institution. The majority of current work must be as a consultant ecologist. A Practising Member has voting rights and must sign the Code of Business Practice, Professional Conduct and Ethics. Applicants must provide a CV with two referees who are Practising Members of the ECA.
- Regional Member
This category recognises the extra costs incurred by Practising Members in regional areas in getting to ECA meetings, which are generally held in Sydney. Regional members must live more than 200 km from the Sydney CBD. Requirements and rights are those of a Practising Member (see above).
- Associate Member
This is open to those applicants who have a degree in the environmental sciences (or the equivalent) from a recognised, preferably Australian, tertiary institution but do not yet have two years experience as a consultant ecologist. An Associate Member has no voting rights but must sign the Code of Ethics. Applicants must provide a CV with two referees who are professional ecologists with experience in Australia (preferably NSW)
- Non-practising Member
This category recognises that there are ecologists working in the public sector who have an interest in the affairs of the association. A non-practising Member has no voting rights but is required to sign the Code of Ethics.
- Student Member
This category recognises that students in relevant disciplines in tertiary institutions may wish to keep abreast of affairs of the ecological consultancy industry, and are likely to be employed in or associated with it after graduation.
