AMBS Ecology & Heritage is seeking individuals with experience in flora and fauna studies who are enthusiastic about fieldwork.
Our work includes flora and fauna surveys, vegetation mapping, biodiversity monitoring, ecological impact assessments, Biodiversity Assessment Methodology (BAM) reports, flora and fauna management plans, nest box work and fauna “spotters”. Most of our projects incorporate a fieldwork component and some of the work is seasonal.
Our work is undertaken across NSW in a variety of landscapes, ranging from cleared paddocks and construction sites to dense bushland.
We are looking for applicants with:
• at least 3 years’ experience in ecological work;
• strong plant and/or fauna identification skills;
• willingness to work in remote and regional areas for up to 12 days at a time, including outside normal hours, over weekends, and in adverse weather conditions;
• ability to use technology such as GPS, smart-phones, digital cameras, i-pads and laptop computers;
• commitment to meticulous recording of field data;
• strong understanding of, and commitment to, WH&S in the field;
• ability to deal with a range of clients, colleagues and regulatory authorities with professionalism and integrity;
• current driver’s licence.
Criteria that are not essential, but will be well-regarded, include experience in the ecological consulting industry, a current Senior First Aid certificate, ability to drive a manual vehicle, experience using a 4WD in off-road environments, a “White Card”, experience in collecting data using the BAM or similar methodology, and/or experience in a related field such as bush regeneration.
Due to the seasonal nature of the work, there are multiple positions available for individuals interested in casual work, and potentially full-time roles for suitable candidates. Applicants from throughout NSW will be considered as much of the survey work will not be Sydney-based.
