Lead Conservation Program Manager – North Head Sanctuary
AEP has a five-year contract with the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust (the Harbour Trust) to manage the Wildlife Conservation & Management Program at North Head Sanctuary. We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Ecologist to act as the Lead Conservation Program Manager on this iconic site, with support as required from the wider AEP team.

Ideally, the select candidate can commence works on or before early July 2024.
The role is offered as a full-time position, but if you want to talk about a part time arrangement, then happy to consider for the right people as we have available resources to assist and co-manage the project if required. Flex days and flexible work times on offer.
AEP has an office space and equipment storage area etc at North Head, where the role will primarily function from. Our office at Petersham can also be utilised as required for a change of scenery!
Key Areas of Responsibility:
· Overseeing and delivering the conservation management services required to the Harbour Trust.
· Main interface with the Sydney Harbour Trust and other relevant site stakeholders, including the Board, on-site volunteer groups, Trust communications team and the wider community.
· Undertaking required fieldwork using a variety of equipment & techniques, monitoring and assessment as required to inform production of Quarterly Reporting.
· Program methodology refinement, and investigation of ways to improve site biodiversity including potential native fauna reintroductions.
· Liasing and working with NPWS and other North Head stakeholders on headland wide programs including monitoring of the Endangered Long-nosed Bandicoot population, feral animal monitoring and control and Little Penguin recovery program etc etc.
Experience:
You will have several years under your belt in a conservation ecology-based role where you have been managing projects. Ability to manage workflow and deliverables, undertake ecological fieldwork using latest techniques, manage data and produce required reporting. Proven experience in conservation management works and rewilding programs will be highly regarded.
We’ll need to see at least two referees who are directly associated with your relevant work history and can vouch for your performance and attitude to work.
Qualifications & Skills:
· Relevant qualifications / experience to fulfil the role.
· Can-do attitude, no matter what the task before you.
· Very high level of self-motivation, self-discipline, initiative and demonstrated ability to manage your workload and perform complex tasks with minimal supervision.
· Ability to positively interact with all relevant stakeholders and maintain good working relations.
· Thorough understanding of OH&S requirements and obligations.
· Demonstrated fauna handling skills, microchipping and biopsy sampling.
· Demonstrated identification skills for native flora and fauna.
· Any other environmental related skills that you think would be useful to AEP an/or the Trust.
· Current driver’s licence.
· Ability to have a laugh.
