Position Title: Senior Ecologist
Location: Armidale, NSW (with travel across SE QLD, NSW North Coast, Central West,
Hunter, and North West Plains)

delivering high-quality ecological services and innovative solutions. Our projects range from
Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs) and Biodiversity Stewardship
Agreement Development (BSAs) to ecological restoration, vegetation surveys, threatened
species assessments, carbon projects, community training, and seed collection.

Current projects include:
● BSAs in Tingha, Maules Creek, Bendemeer, Bathurst, Merriwa, and Goulburn.
● Flora surveys in the Macquarie Marshes.
● BDARs for renewable energy projects near Armidale and Nyngan.
● Threatened flora surveys in the Pilliga.
● Pasture composition surveys on the North West Slopes.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team and play a key role in
delivering high-impact ecological projects across regional NSW and SE QLD. This is a
varied role that offers opportunities for project management, technical expertise
development, and leadership growth.

As a Senior Ecologist, you will:
● Conduct ecological surveys and assessments such as BDARs, BSAs, vegetation
mapping, and threatened species surveys
● Develop restoration plans for degraded ecosystems and contribute to carbon offset
projects
● Manage projects from inception to completion while ensuring compliance with
legislative requirements
● Mentor junior team members by sharing your knowledge and expertise to support
their professional growth
● Pursue your own interests by identifying projects that align with your passions and
skills development goals

This role has the potential to evolve into a team management position as you grow with the
company.

Key Responsibilities

Ecological Assessments:
● Prepare BDARs and BSAs in accordance with relevant regulations
● Conduct vegetation mapping and threatened species surveys across diverse
ecosystems

Restoration Planning:
● Design restoration strategies for degraded habitats and support carbon offset
initiatives

Project Management:
● Oversee project timelines, budgets, deliverables, and stakeholder communication

Team Leadership:
● Mentor staff by sharing knowledge and providing guidance on technical aspects of
projects

Business Development:
● Identify opportunities for new projects aligned with your interests and our mission

Collaboration:
● Work closely with clients (e.g., local councils, government agencies) to deliver
high-quality outcomes

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or related
field
● Minimum 5–7 years of experience in ecological consulting or a similar role
● Strong knowledge of Australian flora/fauna identification and ecosystems in SE QLD
& NSW
● Experience preparing BDARs/BSAs under current legislation (e.g., Biodiversity
Conservation Act 2016)
● Proficiency in vegetation mapping techniques (e.g., GIS software)
● Excellent written communication skills for report writing and stakeholder engagement.

Desirable:
● Experience with carbon offset projects or ecological restoration planning.
● Leadership experience or interest in developing team management skills.
